Aechmea orlandiana is an epiphyte bromeliad that is a standard
for many collections. The picture to the right is a clump of three growing on a
pine heart stump.
Per Aechmea Information, Jan 1995, compiled by Harry Luther and Terri Bert
this specie may no longer be found in the wild. It is further suggested that
most of the clones in circulation may be a result of a cross between orlandiana
and fosteriana.
I have two different clones that both produced seed with-out external
assistance. With a few tiny seedlings growing in perlite I'm curious if they
will stay true or vary. As always with seed growing - patience.
